Lauryn Hill Gives Surprise Performance At Her High School Reunion

During the recent Columbia High School reunion in Maplewood, New Jersey, their famous alumni Lauryn Hill gave a surprise performance for her former classmates. Based on Instagram videos shared from the event, Hill not only showed up to her high school reunion (no small accomplishment given her recent tour cancellations), she even grabbed the mic and delivered an impromptu live performance, during which the five-time Grammy winner delivered some classic hits from her celebrated music career.

She performed “Ex-Factor” from Apple Music’s Number One Album of All Time, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, as well as Fugees’ anthem “Ready or Not,” with Hill modifying the lyrics to pay tribute to her alma mater, “CHS taking over/ Buffalo soldier/ Dreadlock Rasta.” “God bless y’all. I love you so much,” Hill said affectionately as she ended her unexpected performance. One of Hill’s former classmates gushed about the reunion, writing, “People traveled from out of state to love up on their village. It was simply amazing. Still speechless from @mslaurynhill giving us an impromptu performance. This reunion was SO good for the soul ✨” (Billboard)
