Kassi Ashton’s debut album, Made From the Dirt, is set to be released on September 20. Ashton, a native of California, Missouri, initially signed a record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville when she was a college senior. Now, the 30-year-old rising country star is riding the success of her recent single, “Called Crazy,” which peaked at No. 32 on the Country Airplay chart, and she’s hoping that interest carries over into her forthcoming record. Ashton’s country music journey isn’t typical, but she didn’t waver from following her dreams.
“I never felt like I should quit,” she says. “When I signed, they wanted me to go straight to radio. I said no because I didn’t have a song I wanted to sing for the rest of my life.” She feels connected to “Called Crazy,” saying, “It came so easy. I felt like I was finding a pillar.” Ashton’s new album proved to be worth the wait. “I couldn’t have made this album at 23,” she says. “It would have been rushed and not steady with who I am as a person. I can’t wait to see how what I’ve put energy, time and tears into is connecting.” (Billboard)
